Welcome to the blog
Hey guys,
I’ve decided to start doing regular blog posts on my website. I’m not sure what these are going to be, or how often they are going to be.. but they are going to be.
Anyways…
I’ll write freely and share my thoughts as they come.
Filming “content” is not sustainable long term for me. Mainly because I am not comfortable with sharing video of myself on most days. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes I am completely fine with it, and could give 0 fucks what will become of some stupid video I post, and am confident that I SHOULD share it because I’d like people to see it. On those days I will post. In general though, my daily battle of deciding what I should post and how I should post and when I should post and what song I should use, results in me wasting countless hours on these apps and feeling shite about myself in the end.
So.
I’ve been thinking about what the future of my public persona should look like. I hate when people use that term actually – “what does that look like for you”. I usually never have an answer, which is possibly why I have a problem with the phrase. I especially hate it when people use it to define the future of personal relationships. It strikes me as “boardroom meeting” jargon that has found it’s way into our personal lives.
I’ve decided to dedicate my time here, writing and sharing things I like. Because fuck those apps. And because this kind of thing brings me more peace. I hope. We’ll see.
Therefore.
Here is my first blog post –
I’ve been obsessively listening to “Things in Life” by Dennis Brown. I’ve been learning the chords and lyrics, and singing it to myself often. It has a calming effect on me. I’ve loved 60s/70s rocksteady/roots reggae music since I was a kid. Its like medicine. I’ve known of the song for years now but I recently dove back in for some reason. Certain times in life necessitate certain songs. Check it out
I first heard this song in the movie “Chungking Express”. It’s one of my favourite movies. There is a divey, sweaty bar where this song is always playing on the jukebox. I love the locations in the movie so much. It mainly takes place at a kind of hole in the wall restaurant/diner/cafe, and the girl working there is also always blaring “California Dreamin’” on the stereo. She is so quirky and impulsive and cute. You really fall in love with her character.
I’ve drawn a lot of inspiration from the film over the years. Sometimes directly inspiring me to film things in a similar style. Sometimes just making me feel creative through watching it. Sometimes inspiring me to live a certain way for a day or two.
Well, there it is. My first blog post. You know what. I feel good. Tapping on the keyboard is good practice for me I think. I’m off to work. I’m doing sound tonight for a Django style band. Looking forward to it. See ya next time
